Sue Clanton

Sue Clanton is a founding member and officer of Discover Art League, where she has taught classes and workshops for more than 10 years. She began painting as an adult, learning through workshops, classes, reading lots of art books, and visiting art shows and museums. Her travels to many interesting places has driven her need to express her delight in the world. Be it the nomadic yak herders of Tibet, the many peoples of Papua New Guinea, or neighborhood children at a tea party, each has stired an emotion that she wants to share.

I believe art is sharing something beautiful and emotional with another person. The more I paint the more I see new qualities within that I need to express. My paintings are not just about the subject but the light, shadows and the personality of each. I hope to share my joy and appreciation of all the worlds cultures and people that I have experianced.

Sue and her husband John travel extensively, taking unique photographs that inspire many of her paintings, particularly her visualizations of people in activities. Sue's watercolor series of Pacific Islanders, the wine of California and children at a tea party are delightful. Most of her work is in watercolor but she also works in pen and ink, pastel and pencils.
